What’s if My Whole Life Has Been Wrong? (Tolstoy)

Your purpose is the reason you are here on Earth, it’s the thing that you were built for.

So, it’s an incredibly important thing to figure out, because it’s the thing that guides you.

  • Without a purpose, are you lost?
  • Does it mean that you’re one of the few that have no ‘North Star?’
  • Does this manifest into a meaningless life?

And so, today I’m going to talk about how to discover your purpose according to the philosophy of Carl Jung. While writing what is now widely considered his central work, The Red Book, Jung discovered the purpose of his own life. But he didn’t just discover the purpose of his own life. He also discovered where purpose comes from for all of us.

Jung says this: that your purpose is found in performing voluntary self-sacrifice.

What would you willingly sacrifice yourself for? This means that your purpose isn’t found in money, car, clothes, status, or any other self-serving pleasure, but rather, your purpose is found in the thing that you would willingly suffer for. Your purpose lies in serving something that you deem as greater and more valuable than your own existence.

What does this mean for you?

This does not give you that ‘thing’ that you are meant to be, do, have, for example, as a writer, I will stay up all night if I’m writing something that I want to finish, I will submit my manuscript of my book to agents and publishers over and over, and never give up.

What about you? So many people cannot pinpoint what it is for them. And even if you do know what your life’s purpose is, it changes. For example, as a parent, you could be devoting your life to raising your children, and when they’re grown, even teens and need you less for the practical things, what now?

I worked through this with many clients, and have been asked to put it into a written format, so I did.

You can access the worksheets here and go through the 3 steps to find and/or clarify your life’s purpose. It’s a clean and clear guide that you can do in one sitting.

Go for it, and feel free to email me and let me know what you found out and I will reply to as many as I can.

Here is the download for you.

3 easy ways to find your purpose in life

“Don't ask yourself what the world needs, ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. ...

“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” —Mark Twain

Second, use lorem ipsum if you think the placeholder text will be too distracting. For specific projects, collaboration between copywriters and designers may be best, however, like Karen McGrane said, draft copy has a way of turning any meeting about layout decisions into a discussion about word choice. So don’t be afraid to use lorem ipsum to keep everyone focused.

One word of caution: make sure your client knows that lorem ipsum is filler text. You don’t want them wondering why you filled their website with a foreign language, and you certainly don’t want anyone prematurely publishing it.
